DINI PARTNERS’ BUCHANAN NEW AFP/HOUSTON PRESIDENT

(Houston, TX – March 22, 2008) Michelle Buchanan, senior consultant at Dini Partners, has begun her term as president of the Houston chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP).

With a membership of approximately 600, the AFP’s Houston chapter is one of the organization’s largest. According to Buchanan, “Being elected president of the Houston chapter is a major event in my career. AFP has been an important part of my life. It has offered volunteer opportunities that have helped me grow as a person, professional networking that has advanced my career, and personal friendships that will last for a lifetime.”

In her first communication to the Houston membership as president, Buchanan cited three objectives for her term: encouraging every member to be active and engaged; ensuring that AFP programs are relevant and serve the needs of its members; and continuing to build the chapter’s presence beyond the Houston area.

Reflecting on the chapter’s membership goals, Buchanan stated, “While our chapter has grown significantly over the past few years and currently represents approximately 400 registered nonprofits, Houston is blessed with a significant number of nonprofits providing plenty of opportunity to grow our membership.”

Buchanan, a senior consultant at Houston-based Dini Partners, has been an AFP member for ten years and will serve as president for a one-year term. Buchanan also began a three-year term this year as the chair of the Texas Tech University College of Mass Communications National Advisory Board.  Prior to joining Dini Partners, she worked as a development officer and leader in fundraising campaigns with staffs ranging in size from one to 85. Her professional background includes upper-level development leadership roles with the University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center, the University of Houston, and the Wesley Community Center. Her undergraduate degree is from Texas Tech University, and she earned a Master’s degree in Political Science with a Certificate in Campaign Management from Kent State University.
